Green Agenda for the Western Balkans (2021-2027)

The region's blueprint for climate neutrality and environmental sustainability by 2050.

The Green Agenda for the Western Balkans is a comprehensive growth strategy adopted through the Sofia Declaration in November 2020, aiming to tackle climate change and support the green transition across the Western Balkans region. Aligned with the European Green Deal, the agenda focuses on five pillars: (1) decarbonization and climate resilience, (2) circular economy, (3) depollution of air, water and soil, (4) sustainable food systems and rural areas, and (5) biodiversity protection and ecosystem restoration. The European Commission has committed €1.25 billion since 2021, with an additional €9 billion in grants and €20 billion in accompanying investments planned for 2021-2027. Albania participates as a beneficiary country, with opportunities for governments, municipalities, environmental institutions and regional organizations to access technical assistance and investment support.
